When does BattleNet adjust league status? Is it based on time or only on record -- as in, can I wait out this week and drop a league with my current 0-5 Platinum record, or do I have to lose 10 games in this league before dropping to Gold, or what?

I wish I'd have thrown a game during my placement matches, 'cause I'm just getting mercilessly crushed since then.

Pretty sure BattleNet crashes my computer.

You've got to actually play games. The system assigns you a given skill rating (this is different from your displayed rating), which it uses to determine if you are favored to win a match. Losing several games that you are favored to win will cause you to be dropped down a level. If you are really losing every game, you should be dropped down a level by the time you are 0-10 at least.

There are some nice games out there already. Battlecraft and nexus wars are my favorite. There's a marine version of footmen frenzy out too.

If you're really miserable, you can just join games and then drop.

Studying replays with better players can be educational, however.

Loving campaign map The Dig!

Every mission needs a giant laser drill.

My favorite tactic is to just bunker in completely for the first half, then build a second command center and fill it with 5 SCVs, fly off. Creep around the edge of the map using GIANT DOOM LASER to waste everything in sight. Take a bit of damage, drop SCVs out the bottom when it's clear. 1500 points o' HP will let you fly right up to photon cannons and a void ray or two, switch to laser control FIZZLE FIZZLE POP FIZZLE muahahahaha.

Cleared the entire map on Hard that way. Once you've got a foothold cleared in one protoss base, the attack waves reduce in intensity, making things a lot easier.

Yeah, the laser drill is phenomenally fun. It's especially great because the base area on that map is ridiculously good for bunkering down, so you can more or less just focus on maximum zappy destruction of the Protoss.

Woo! WizardofWestmarch fixed it! In the variables file I was able to add Height=1360
Width=768, and it worked immediately. So it was a resolution issue where it was trying to render higher than my monitor could handle. So why the F was that variable not in there to begin with?!

I had a similar problem, i dont know what kind of monitor you have but Blizzard apparantly doesnt like people with CRT monitors, it is a little annoying that they have had this problem since the beta but havent fixed it.

Haha. There was no special trickery in cobbling the laser drill together. In the editor, it's there. It's placeable. It's useable. It will fire death lasers at any visible units within 100 range, automatically. Haven't delved into the code at all, so my guess that for the campaign, the vault doors were given top targeting priority.

Also found so far: Lurkers, Tauren marine, Murloc marine and Diablo, lord of Terror. Sadly, the latter two are only models with animations, but the first two are fully fleshed out units.

Is every Starcraft 1 unit available in the editor? Everything seems to keep turning up in SC2, pissing me off that they aren't in the multiplayer.

Just before launch Day9 has a huge Starcraft event with lots of various stuff, one of the best parts was The Little One doing his five placement matches. You can watch it here

it starts about 2:40 in.

Holy shit, it runs! It's chuggy, and the graphics are all the way down, but it works!

Raynor owns, btw.

It occurs to me that I never played Brood Wars. I got to fix that shit.

I'm a SUPER NOOB and may be focusing on single player more than MP for now, but if you want to do a practice match or something, I'm down.

the term "noob" distances people from the problem and calling them chobo would encourage "personal responsibility."
