Games Killing Floor MEGATHREAD (Christmas Event Coming Out 12/14)

What is Killing Floor?

Killing Floor is a invasion-style 6-player coop game based on the Unreal Engine.

Whatís the story?

Quote:
On the last day of August, everything changed in the bustling city of London.

A group of several thousand protesters were reported assembling outside the offices of a wealthy Biotech corporation called Horzine. The riot police were called in because the general consensus was that these protesters were the violent sort and needed a lesson in civil obedience. All of this was based on eyewitness testimony that the office entrance had been smashed to pieces. It was agreed that this was a poor way to treat the property of a renowned government defense contractor and the boys suited up, put their visors down and moved in. With a few armed Special Branch lads hidden in amongst them, because they didnít want to miss the fun.

On arriving, the officers found the entrance to be deserted. Still, a gaping hole stood where the doors had been and there was debris, twisted metal and all the evidence they really needed to start clapping hippies in cuffs. And as though he had read the officersí collective thoughts, one of the protesters emerged from that man-made orifice and stumbled up to them. It took a few moments for the screaming to start as this protestor, a naked, emaciated specimen, had sunk elongated teeth into the neck of the closest cop and was vigorously tearing off bits of flesh. It only took a few more moments for the Special Branch types to haul out their 9mms and the gunfire erupted.

With the smell of blood now thick in the air, the rest of the ďprotestorsĒ emerged from that wound in the building. By the hundred. They howled and shambled and moved as though they had some terribly important purpose.

There were little ones and large ones and those with chainsaws and cleavers instead of limbs and in the last moments of his life, the police sergeant mused that it was a bit like staring at a macabre circus troupe.

On the last day of August, London turned into a Killing Floor.
Whatís the gameplay like?

Itís like 28 Weeks Later: The Game (Blackjack said this).

Okay, whatís the gameplay really like?

Itís Invasion Mode with really huge maps and cool perks.

Perks: More to come later.

Strategy: Watch this space.

Where can I buy it?

It's available on Steam for a low, low price.

Where's the server?

Server info: Iíll set it up from time to time. Iíll announce when itíll be up in this thread, but no matter what, the password will always be dramallama.

Here are some really blurry screenshots because the UT2K4 engine forces you to save everything in BMP file for some fucking reason

So I was playing today and we made it to a boss level. This giant zombies with guns and sword hands said that I had killed his children, or something. I'm scouting around the level but I don't see him anywhere, and I'm starting to get worried, because he could one-shot me. I turn around and BAM he's right there and like 10 feet tall.

So I freak the fuck out and just start firing my auto-shotgun at him. Just going nuts. I'm shooting so much that the bullets are kicking up a pile of smoke and I can't see shit but I know he's right in front of me, so I keep at it until I run of of ammo. The smoke clears, and the boss falls over dead.

It was pretty fucking awesome.

My connection is getting all funky.
In other news, just played a fun game with Buzz and somebody else and had a blast (even though the Primarch killed us all). I've never beaten a full round of Killing Floor before. Like, got in at the very beginning and played to the death of the Primarch. I always start halfway through the waves or my squad dies.

Somedaaaayy

I own the game, just never saw anyone playing it. I think I got up to level 5 medic at one point, but I don't know if that info's stored server-side or client side. (Hard Drive format between now and the last time I played)

Okay, here is the deal with perks.

Short version: There's 7 perks to choose from, and each comes with various bonuses and benefits that specialize you in a certain way. Think of it like really really flexible, changeable TF2 classes.

Long Version:
The seven perks are: Field medic, support specialist, sharpshooter, berserker, commando, firebug, and demolitionist.

Field Medic: Ze doctor. Gives you a discount on body armor and the medic gun at the shop. It also increases the effectiveness of your own body armor, heals you give, running speed, and the mag size on the medic gun. These get higher with each progressive perk level.

Support Specialist: Handyman and backup bro. Lets you weld doors much quicker and carry more shit. You also get a decrease on shotgun costs and an effectiveness to shotgun damage. They're also the preferred class to equip the LAW rocket launcher on, since they can carry more.

Sharpshooter: Sniper McSniperson. You get extra damage for headshots and extra damage using sniping weapons or other precision things, like the handcannons, crossbow, bolt action rifle, etc. You also get a decrease in recoil and reload times, as well as a discount on certain guns.

Berserker: The melee perk. Your melee damage goes up, you gain a resistance to bloat bile (the big fatties that explode), and the little zombie guys (called Clots) can't grab you and hold you down. Your melee attacks are a lot faster too, and you get a discount on the katana and chainsaw.

Commando: The handy assault-type guys. They specialize in machine gun weaponry, and spotting useful info. They get bonuses to pretty much all the sub-machine gun type weapons (like the Bullpup, AK47, SCAR) and discounts on the same. They can spot cloaked enemies like the Sirens, and are the only class that can see an enemy's health. Reload speed with ALL weapons is faster.

Firebug: The pyro. This perk is really specialized as it pretty much only focuses on the flamethrower. Flamethrower range, capacity, reload time, and damage all get nifty bonuses. You also gain a resistance to fire and some grenade enhancements at the higher perk levels.

Demolitionist: The explosives guy. Damage and resistance to explosives goes up, as does explosive damage, the number of grenades and pipebombs you can have on you, and you get a discount on all explosives.

Each perk has requirements you gotta meet before you gain another perk level. Like, for example, Commandos have to deal X amount of damage with the Bullpup, AK47, or SCAR and kill X number of stalkers before they go up a rank. Medics just have to heal X amount of team health per rank before they progress. Sharpshooters have to do X numbers of headshots, etc etc.

There are ways you can spam the requirements but it's more fun to just play the game.

So those are perks! They're really useful and are key to making it through to the end. A team full of demolitionists will have massive damage but won't be as effective as a team that has a medic, commando, support specialist, and so on.

I played a solo round just to reacquaint myself. I'd forgotten how atmospheric it can be. I'd also forgotten how those damn straightjacket shrieking ones can somehow appear right next to you despite a 100% welded door.
