I just caught up on this weeks episode. My question is when Raylan was brawling with Coover, did he lose on purpose? It seemed to me that he was about to whoop up on Coove until he saw the girl show up. Thoughts?

I don't think it's possible to say the name Raylan Givens without adding a southern drawl to it.

I wonder if, between Art's suspicions and Boyd/Helen's new talk about Raylan leaving Kentucky, if they are seriously laying some track for him leaving Kentucky during the series. I feel a little vindicated in my speculation.

One of the advantages that the creators talked about from the beginning with basing the show around a U.S. Marshal was that they could send him on assignment anywhere they wanted, and that of course would also include transferring him to a new office. It wouldn't be a complete shock if they did move him out of Kentucky, but man, they're doing such a great job with the setting and using the character's history there that I'm in no hurry to see it happen. But I like that they have that door open just in case the Harlan county well runs dry.

also they can totally milk Harlan and Raylan's history for another season. The show's treatment of the "coming back to a small town" stuff is brilliant. Whenever he does leave I will be sad (though I'll likely get over it fast).

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ben Jackson for initially making this thread, because without it I probably would have never started watching this show.

I'm not certain that he was going to win before, but it definitely seemed like he started pulling his punches at that point.

I was tense during the whole show. The room got real chilly when Boyd and Mags shook hands. I was not shocked when Coover died, though.
So many great actors on that show - Timothy Olyphant, Walton Goggins and Margo Martindale to name a few. |

Every scene with Coover and Loretta together, after Coover overheard Mags going on and on about how awesome Loretta was, I was on the edge of my goddamn seat waiting for him to do something stupid.
Was really worried the little girl was gonna die.

That moment after Raylan is like "There's no way" and it washed over Mags' face, goddamn. Raylan really stepped in it this time.

I'm still like 2 or 3 episodes behind. Last night I start the episode after the bank robbery episode and I'm sitting there watching the opening credits and "Stephen Root" pops up there.
I cannot adequately describe the grin that stretched across my face.

Easily one of the best characters in the show. The show is full of them. Most of the die though.

The pre-credits sequence on this episode was fantastic, and Nick Searcy is great, as usual, in it. The whole episode does a pretty great job of coming down from the explosiveness of last week and taking stock of everything that changed. Sort of like taking a breath before we can dive into the final four episodes of the season.
I suppose this is where we'll finally see Jeremy Davies get a bit more to do. Last edited by Chest Rockwell; 2011-04-14 at 8:23 AM. |

Its so weird that they hired Jeremy Davies to basically play a pathetic idiot. He does it well, but unless Dickie contains hidden multitudes I think he's in for a rude awakening (by which I mean death).

Also, current scuttlebutt on the end of the episode:
Winona was the target of the hit, not Raylan; Either Gary is directly responsible for it (witness his crying at the divorce negotiation when Winona's insurance came up) or is at least at fault for it because of his involvement with the Dixie Mafia. A big payout for Winona's life insurance would be the only way he could pay them off. Pretty convincing imo. I am dumb and didn't connect the dots myself. |

Did anyone else have trouble with the closed-captioning for this episode? Every other channel was closed-captioned. This show even had the "CC" symbol at the top, but there was no captioning...

Great episode, I caught my self smiling a lot when Boyd was talking, just the realization of what he was going to do.
