Backwards Compatible Volume 4: Mechwarrior 4 - Vengeance

For Volume 4, we'll be playing Mechwarrior 4 - Vengeance. We won't be starting for a few weeks, but I'm posting this thread right now to give everyone a chance to get a copy. This game is readily available from places like eBay and Amazon. We'll be starting in about 2 or 3 weeks so get going on this, you never know when the people you order from are going to take their sweet time sending it. It's pretty cheap in a lot of places, and you can absolutely play with Mouse+Keyboard if you don't have a joystick. Get to it!

EDIT: For the first deadline, we're playing through mission 6 of the Vengeance campaign for Monday, May 4's show. Mission 6 is the depot raid; the second mission on the second map. Discuss it all in here and we'll talk about it further on the May 4 show!

I encourage everyone to get Black Knight and Mercs, because they both rule. However, we're only officially playing and discussing Vengeance, and we'll be talking about that game on the show.

I wonder if MW4, Mercs, and BK will even play on this computer. I remembered it was glitchy on my old comp. I've got the CDs sitting around somewhere.

Not as of now, but it could definitely be in the next poll for BC.

MW4 runs on just about anything, the only caveat is Vista, be ready to play with compatibility modes.

Also, as for MW4:Mercs...while it lacks the freedom of the first Mercs game, it's still a lot of fun. Not a whole lot of story, but the voice acting and mission dialogues are great. Plus the way you get one of your pilots (Falcon) is pure gold.

I played the hell out of MW4, and the Black Knight expansion. My only real complaint was the loss of the detailed Mech creation system like in MW3. I liked picking out all the specific parts and figuring out what could go where. I really wanted to be able to build my own mech instead of just following a weapon template.

MW3 did have an awesome mech building system, but they both have their ups and downs. MW3 had some instances in which I thought to myself "this shouldn't be possible" or "why am I restricted from doing this, this is dumb," the complexity was counter-productive once in a while.

Mech3 had a better "feel" for the mechs in my opinion, but a poorer overall balance.

I really liked the camera and control work in 3.
