So there is a limit to range upgrades?
How the hell are you supposed to make a non-stop from Nome to Wellington for the achievement?

It says "Longest Journey: Make a non-stop flight between Nome and Wellington."

A "stop" in this game only counts when you actually physically stop at the airport. But if you chain from Welling to Nome via whatever route, it counts.
Otherwise it wouldn't be possible.

Think I've added most/all of the gamecenter IDs I saw in the thread, I'm 'xolf' myself.

Looking at the leaderboards, anyone think that 'georgewhite51' might've found a way to submit dubious scores?

As an aside, would a Huey be useful for anyone, or is everyone well past that stage now?

I discovered last night that I was playing wrong. I'd basically expanded only across the midwest and eastern NA with a bunch of airports in that small space. When I saw a class 2 path to get down to Santiago for the event, I closed some smaller airports and opened up the new ones going through Central and South America.
Then I realized that that's how you make money. My first flight, from NY to Santiago with a full 2C/2P load, netted more than double my best flight previously. It also helps to keep me interested by not burning me out checking my flights constantly since none of them were exceeding 10 minutes. |

I'm trying to do that as well. Im closing some class 1 airports but I'm not generating much more money.
When I can't get a full load I don't generate much money for the time of travel it takes... |

You need to not be afraid to pick up people who don't match and drop them off as layovers.
Also, don't be afraid to keep one or two cheap planes that do nothing but run rather unprofitable flights to feed your larger airports. For example, I have some planes that spend a good part of their day picking up whatever is in Dallas and San Fran and just dropping it off in LAX. You really need light weight planes for this, because the heavier the plane, the more it costs for each stop.

I'm not sure that it's sound, but I also feel like, unless it's a 15m flight or something, I'm better off grabbing a plane full of oddballs, especially if I can get 2 to the same destination, as long as the flight is making some money, rather than sitting empty waiting for the next round of jobs that may not be any better. Because then the plane is in the air making money, and I'm "claiming" the passengers to stack up as layovers to be able to more easily build a full set of 4 for the big bonus.
Also regarding plane upgrades, I've maxed out the plane weight, on everything, and have selective reasoning for the rest if I do it at all. For example, I've upgraded the speed to max on my 2 Mohawks (one C, one P) to keep as my class 1 planes forever, as well as bumping up the range one notch because that put Seattle and Chicago in range, because it was very close but just outside. I don't really bother with the speed on anything else; reducing the weight always increases the profitability of the plane, where with speed if I'm not sitting there chaining flights (and I tend to end up with a few planes waiting after having landed as I go through them all even if I am) it's sorta wasted because I'm not gaining anything from the speed boost. I did it on the Mohawks because they are usually making fast shuttles between closer airports, and I plan to keep them for a longer time. Last edited by Kamileon; 2012-06-25 at 6:38 PM. |

If there are really terrible options at an airport and there's no way to make even a lemonade worthwhile flight out, I will board up anything remotely promising and wait for the new jobs to show up because the stuff you boarded sticks around. So if I'm somewhere with a 4 seat plane and there's random class 1 destinations and one flight to L.A., I'll board that up because it might be more useful if more L.A. stuff comes in.

For those in Oceana, be very patient when Jakarta has fog and all your awesome class 2 planes are grounded and/or running between Sydney and Melbourne. At least fog is short. I actually like the weather and the delays. Makes it more realm

Think we're mostly using TOUCHARCADE, since at the moment it's a simple case of "biggest crew wins and gets the freebies" with no other real benefits to a team, sooo...
