Do we know how much you need to contribute to get the reward?

As far as I can tell, as long as you've gotten SOMETHING to the special event location, that's enough. I was somewhere past position 2000 in Team Arcade for the last event, and got full credit/reward.

Okay, so I guess I don't have to worry about that to the point where I'm losing money just to get jobs there. Which I haven't been and I already have 125 jobs, so.

I'm guessing at this point I need to start prioritizing upgrading some airports? I don't know. I'm a hair from 15, 12 planes, 13 airports across NA, and I just can. not. fill a pearjet with the same destination, and at least not without upgrading weight a lot, it's just not profitable at all to run them with a mixed bag.
I'm having trouble in general filling the birchcrafts with 4 to the same place, but at least those still make money if i run them with assorted destinations and try to build 4s or 5s with layovers later. I tend to run pretty layover heavy on my airports, and I'm still only getting 2s and maybe 3s to the same city. I don't know if I'm having a really bad go with my dice (story of my life forever) or what the deal is. Maybe I'm hurting for having the three class 1 airports still open, like they're taking up job slots that most of my planes can't service? |

For my Birchcrafts I tend to grab 3 to the farthest and grab one to my midway stopping point and grab the 4th there. Also using my class one planes to ferry for the 4 bonus. I have a total mix of planes still. Half class ones, half class two.

What is the primary determining factor in how much the fare is for a passenger or cargo? How far away the airport is? Should my expansion strategy be to open big airports as far away (but in range) as possible?

It is distant, but its linear. All cargoes pay the same per mile, which means they pay the say per minute.
If you're just chilling around the house, so you can check often, the strategy to bank is to fill planes with cargo going to the same place for the bonis

I have one Pearjet-P (and a Pearjet-C in parts) and I just can't make it profitable. I still need to trade more class 1 airports to class 2.

To make things like Pearjets profitable you have to be going for the full bonus and you need to be going a long ways. With a full upgrade to the plane it can reach London from New York, if you can't get that yet, don't send the plane unless it is full with the same destination people/cargo

With Pearjets, you have to run them full. If I have one in Australia, I will often load up 2 to Cairo, 2 to Dhaka and 1 to Jakarta. I fly that to Jakarta, and maybe there, I find 3 going to Dhaka. I unload the 2 Cairo passengers and lay them over until I get a full load going to Cairo, or I need to fill seats on a plane headed west.

Here is how to do pearjets:
Have non class 2 airplanes (ie not expensive, kangaroos or mohawks are good for this) bring passengers or cargo from let's say LA (going to let's say London or Teahran), take them to New York, lay them over. Granted you'll take like a 500 coin hit for this ferrying, but you keep laying over things in New York, then you have pearjets leave New York with full cargo for London that is worth more because of the distance and 25% bonus, rake in coins, live large, etc.

I mostly use my pear jets to fly HI->LA->NY (I have 3 cargo 1 Passenger) and use my equinox's to hit the other airports. all of my vehicles are 2k+ profitable.

Also, are Mixed planes better for the higher level planes (like the Pearjet) because there's more of a selection to choose from? I would almost think so in that case...

I think when I hit the Class3 Jets I'll go for mixed, but so far I'm fine with the C/P's with pears.

I think you could instead do 2x14, and make it to madrid, then short hop to london.

I have to say after a few days I'm addicted to this badly, I'm not too far out yet, but with a fleet of around 14 planes and keeping my number of cities max to my level (9, almost 10) I feel like no run is a money loss, and I've seen since level 7 a huge influx of bux paying flights.
Game so far has gotten a A+ from me |

I mostly have Pearjets or Aerowhatevers. My network is mostly class 3 cities from LA to Tokyo. My flights average 2-3k profit, however I do have many flights that take in 6-8k
