Paranoia Mafia Round 5: The Metagame TEST COMPLETE

As the last few seconds ticked away, Athos glared at gramalkin. He looked at the others, and muttered:
"Why won't he just take a handle and end this?"

Bassetking nodded tightly. Sweat was collecting on his body as time ran down.

But with three of four Troubleshooters ready to end the Test, gramalkin was standing apart, fidgeting nervously but going nowhere near the handles.

Finally, their patience snapped. Without coordinating their efforts or even looking at each other, Bassetking and Athos suddenly both snatched their lasers with a free hand and started firing at gramalkin!

gramalkin yelped in panic and dived for cover, narrowly dodging the other Troubleshooters' fire. He tripped before making it behind solid cover. The harried Red flipped over to look his executioner in the eye, but even at the last second he was unable to make a choice: unable to decide whether to stare down Bassetking or Athos as both leveled their lasers.

But an instant before the fatal shot was fired, two of the handgrips went live. A torrent of energy roared through the two laser-wielding Troubleshooters, sending them from righteous anger to charred corpses in less than a second. Ursaring, wide-eyed, let go of his own handle after the fact and stepped away.

He looked at gramalkin, panting on the floor. They considered each other in silence as the lights began to dim for another Night.

Athos AND Bassetking have been executed.

HIDDEN RULE UNLOCKED!

Hidden Rule #3: If someone asks if they can assassinate someone WITHOUT using mutant powers – shooting them with a laser, say – they have a 60% chance of succeeding. Doing this during the Day Phase carries a 90% chance that the Computer instantly executes you for acting on insufficient evidence; doing this during the Night Phase means that your target ALSO has a 50% chance of killing you - unless they were taking no action other to protect themselves, in which case their 50% chance comes first and aborts your attempt if successful.

NIGHT 6 has begun, and will end in 24 hours or when all actions have been received. Two Troubleshooters remain. One way or another, the Test will end tomorrow!

Other than a brief yelp soon after the lights went down, the Night passes quietly, and rises on a new day.

Ursaring and (surprisingly) Athos are the only two Troubleshooters alive to greet the morning; gramalkin is nowhere to be seen.

The results of yesterday's Threat Elimination Evaluation Vote indicates that at least some members of the team suspect a Threat is still present, Troubleshooter Athos! There will be another opportunity to make use of the TEE-V once you have completed another round of Threat Selection.

You cannot vote for the Mission Recorder, Troubleshooter Athos!

The players will choose one MISSION RECORDER before play begins. The Mission Recorder cannot be voted for in the daily Threat Identification, as their job is to record the Training Exercise. In addition, any failed attempt to assassinate the Recorder will automatically result in the exposure and execution of the assassin at the beginning of the next Day Phase as long as the Recorder is still alive when the Day begins.

Friend Computer, I am faced with a conundrum.

Troubleshooter Usaring has done nothing that I would consider threatening to me.

In fact, I trust him enough that I would like to inquire, can he be Leader and Recorder?
