so, I had an idea.

There's a free webservice IPInfoDB (http://ipinfodb.com/ip_location_api.php) that has an api that you can send an ip address and, with a decent amount of accuracy, will return geolocation data (long/lat, City, State)

I think it'd be neat to have an option (off by default), that would grab that information and store it in the user database. We could use it to make some really neat infographics, as well as revive the map.

The idea would be that you can refresh your geolocation manually, it wouldn't be automated.

I'd like to offer my services for implementing this as well.

Humm. Is there much we could or would want to do with this other than what we've already got with Google Maps and the like? It's an interesting bit of technology, but do we have any application for it?

Think of charts.
